PELLET MASTER CLASS

Every year RTG runs a master class for our customers who make wood pellets. The reason we do this is because when pellet press operators leave and are then replaced with another person only about 50% of the knowledge is passed on to the new person. The new operator has to then learn the hard way, often making mistakes along the way. In order to help them get up to speed quickly we hold a one-day masterclass in pellet making.

This covers machine set up, DIE changing, roller greasing, lubrication settings, amperage reading limits and lots more. At the end of the day we want that operator to be 100% comfortable using their machine and knowing exactly how hard they can push it and what to watch and listen out for. Having this knowledge prevents accidents, assists the maintenance team to identify wear and tear early on and most importantly – results in good quality consistent pellets.

At the end of the day it’s in everyone’ interests to make good quality pellets so all consumers using wood pellets can confidently buy quality pellets that perform well in their pellet heaters. Poor pellets lead to consumer issues with their heaters – nobody wants this. So that’s why at RTG we are happy to work with our customers and keep them on top of their game.

One of the most important tricks we use is to measure the pellet density every 20 – 30 minutes. If the density drops too low the automatic bagging machine starts to play up and leads to production problems. If this is caught early enough these pellets can be quarantined and the issue fixed (often this issue is a wet batch of fibre – increasing the composition of dried shredded block material can be a quick fix). There are lots of production tricks that we have learned over the last 10 years making wood pellets.
